M&P was proud to lead project management for the refurbishment of McAuley Level 6 and the Calvary Mater Hospice, delivering a seamless transformation from initial planning through to completion across both sites. The McAuley Level 6 works involved repurposing a former staff accommodation floor into a modern workspace for Calvary clinical trial staff, including new amenities, updated hydraulic and waterproofing systems, HVAC upgrades, and full BCA fire engineering compliance and certification. Alongside this, the Fig Tree Kitchen & Lounge refurbishment at the Hospice delivered a new custom kitchen, lounge ("The Nook"), workbench and seating, and a full suite of new furniture, fittings and equipment — creating a warm space used daily by patients, families, carers and staff for gatherings, shared meals and connection, and widely regarded as the "heart" of the Hospice.

Leveraging extensive experience in refurbishment and infrastructure enhancement across Newcastle and the Hunter, we applied strategic planning, robust risk management, and efficient procurement processes to these critical healthcare projects. Our client-focused approach ensured project management strategies were tailored to the Mater's operational requirements, drawing on industry best practices to drive efficiency, mitigate risk, and optimise outcomes while upholding the highest standards of quality and safety which is a particularly important consideration given the sensitivity of delivering works within a live hospital and palliative care environment.

The refurbishment works encompassed a full suite of project management responsibilities across both sites. This included comprehensive planning and strategy, where objectives were defined, key milestones established, and a detailed roadmap developed to minimise operational disruption. Risk management and compliance remained central throughout, with continuous assessments addressing the complexities of working within an operational healthcare facility. Budgeting and cost control formed an essential foundation, with detailed financial planning and ongoing cost monitoring maintaining efficiency without compromising quality or long-term sustainability.

Resource management and coordination were equally critical, ensuring consistent communication with Mater stakeholders and close management of contractor relationships including progress claims, variations and close-out documentation to maintain workflow continuity. Quality assurance was embedded throughout delivery via regular site inspections and performance evaluations, culminating in a smooth handover, operational integration, and ongoing post-project support.

Together, these projects reflect M&P's commitment to delivering comprehensive project management solutions that drive success, no matter the scale or sensitivity of the works, enhancing both clinical trial workspace capability and the everyday experience of patients and families receiving palliative care.
